Legacy Status: Does it Help or Hurt During Sorority Recruitment? image

Recently, a mom asked me: “My daughter plans to attend either Ole Miss, UGA, or Arkansas this next fall. She is a legacy to a chapter that is well-regarded at most of those schools. Will this help her? Could it hurt her chances at other sororities?” Great question, Plano mom! Let me begin by saying that you absolutely do not have to be a legacy (meaning your mom, sister, or grandmother pledged a sorority back in the day) to join one yourself and enjoy all the amazing aspects of sisterhood. If you’re excited to join a sorority – don’t let that hold you back for one second. On the flip side, legacy status does not mean you’re automatically in, either.  ...

Sorority Recruitment Schedules: Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 Edition, By University image

Why do some schools hold formal recruitment in the fall, while others require that their freshmen wait until spring semester? The answer? Usually a mix of tradition and university policy. Not to worry though – there are pros of each. (We’re not going to address cons, because you’re in good hands and you’re going to make great friends either way – promise!) Some PNMs are thrilled to enjoy all the amazing things that come with sisterhood (the friendships, the neon t-shirts, and those little Greek alphabet letters in their Instagram posts) immediately when college begins. Plenty of other incoming freshmen prefer to have the semester to settle in, focus on classes, and to cultivate friendships with a few sororities before ...

Having been in your shoes, I completely understand what a crazy, stressful, and ultimately SO rewarding of a process sorority recruitment is at UT. Being part of such a special sisterhood is ...

Where to Live if You Plan to Join a Sorority at the University of Texas image

Where to Live if You Plan to Join a Sorority at the University of Texas As an incoming student, one of the most important decisions you’ll make prior to your freshmen year is where to live. If you plan to participate in sorority recruitment at the University of Texas, you probably want to know where all the other girls planning to rush are signing up to live. The answer is Hardin House or Scottish Rite Dormitory SRD. I’d like to also make a quick note that first-semester freshmen at UT aren’t allowed to live in the sorority houses, which makes sense because you won’t know which sorority you’re in until bid day. I could talk about the best on-campus dorms, but honestly, I’m not ...
